The Austrailian Government is weighing China’s planned 19.5 Billion dollar investment in mining giant Rio Tinto. It would boost China’s equity in Rio Tinto to 18%
Carbon Flat Roll
USS has announced further plans to consolidate by temporarily idling 2 facilities in Ontario, and moving the work to Mon Valley Works, Gary Works, and Fairfield Works
Stainless Steel
Outukompu is set to raise its production of plate at its New Castle, IN facility from 50000 tpy to 70000 tpy |

| Aluminum
*Aleris International has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection. They have received a DIP,
and secured a credit line that will get them through the end of 2009. Aleris is saying that it
will be business as usual, there international companies were not included in this filing
Carbon Steel- Flat
*Domestic Mills continue to operate at below 50% capacity, with some mills operating at 40% or
below
Stainless Steel
*Surcharges for 304 and 316 are down in February, but will rise minimally in March

* Lead Times are 6-8 Weeks for Common Alloy
* China’s Aluminum Production has fallen 2.8% YTD
* Aluminum Inventories continue to grow on the LME
* Ingot has been as low of .69/lb, but has picked up recently, and is now is the low 70’s
Carbon Steel Flat
* US Steel, Mittal, Algoma, and Severstall have all announced cut backs in production
* Capacity of the Mills are at 50.2%, down from the high 80’s this year
* Two-thirds of the Blast furnaces in the US are idled
* Lead times are still short, but with production cut backs, they are moving out quickly
Stainless Steel
* Surcharges continue to drop
* Lead times are 3-4 Weeks for Coil
* Major Producers in the mining of Nickel, have announced major cut backs
* Pricing in 2009 could rise a bit due to the current restocking
